It takes a lot of guts to walk up to a complete stranger and ask
if you can photograph them. Thankfully, I summoned the
courage to ask this gentleman for his picture and he agreed.
I believe his exact words were “Do whatever you want.” I had
seen him while browsing around a local antique store and I loved
how the light was highlighting the side of his face. I also loved how
his hat said “Legend”. My favorite aspect of this piece is the hint of
a smile in his eyes and the overall antique-style aesthetic.
My favorite thing about photography is being able to find beauty in ordinary things. This photo is a great example. One morning, I came into the kitchen to grab some breakfast. I decided on a grapefruit, so I began to cut it and prepare it. Then, I saw all the interesting textures that the fruit and the bowl provided and I felt inclined to take a photo. I was able to capture this shot with my cellphone. I think it’s important to be able to take a good picture no matter what technology you’re using. I brought this image into Photoshop to boost the saturation and contrast.
Because I have lived in the same small town my entire life, I’ve gotten pretty used to my mundane surroundings. However, when I went for a walk one day, I found this unique, green bus behind the local tattoo shop. I loved how the green contrasted the brick and the snow on the top surfaces. After I took the picture, I brought the image into Photoshop. I bumped up the contrast and saturation to give the image more life. I enjoy all of the vivid colors and the overall uniqueness. Whenever I look at this image, I’m reminded that even the ordinary can be beautiful. This piece also reminds me of my home.
I love flowers, especially in the summer when they’re so vibrant and beautiful. After several rainy days last summer, we finally had a nice, sunny day. I decided to seize this opportunity to go outside and take some pictures. I used my mom’s flowers on our porch as my subject. After shooting what seemed like hundreds of pictures, I edited them using Photoshop. I increased the saturation and contrast and then brought the image into Lightroom where I experimented with filters.
